PTI nominates Imran Khan as its PM candidate

Khan had been summoned by the accountability body on July 18, but had sought more time to appear due to his "busy schedule".

Claiming that the PTI is now in the clear to form government in the Centre, Chaudhry said, "PTI's seat tally in the National Assembly currently stands at 125 after the inclusion of independents".

Earlier, PTI formally nominated party's supremo Imran Khan as their candidate for prime minister s slot. Sharif is now appealing a 10-year prison sentence for corruption.

PTI sources said that Khan will appear before the probe team today and later also preside over a meeting of PTI local leaders in Peshawar. The party will have to seek formal support from smaller parties or independents to get elected the prime minister of its choice.

He said that corruption and nepotism would be completely uprooted from the country.

Qureshi denied that he has been selected by the party as the candidate for the election of the National Assembly speaker.

Qureshi insisted the opposition would not be able to undermine the new government and quoted Khan as saying during Monday's meeting that all they can do is "create a rumpus".

The ECP has conditionally notified results of three seats won by Mr Khan, The News reported. Besides this, ECP has also withheld the notification for NA-108 Faisalabad IV where Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Ayaz Sadiq had secured majority.

Khan, a former cricket star, is accused of using the helicopter for private visits while his party governed the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province from 2013 to 2018.
