With the first preseason contest behind us, what can Browns fans come away with for this game?
Rookie sensation Baker Mayfield wrapped up his first performance early in the fourth quarter of the Brown's game against the New York Giants. While Tyrod Taylor holds the edge to start right now, Mayfield is making an excellent case to be Cleveland's starting quarterback when the regular season begins.
"I'm aware that it was the first game, and in that respect, it's not so bad", said Mayfield, the Heisman Trophy victor from Oklahoma.
Jose Mourinho 'not confident' of deadline day signings
I was told that during pre-season it looked like I was saying something absolutely out of order, something insane . Mourinho revealed he will be without six senior players for the game against Leicester.
While that was all well and good, Mayfield's showcase came after Taylor completed all of his pass attempts (5 for 5, 99 yards) in posting a flawless passer rating (158.3) and had the more impressive TD connection with Njoku. "I had some rough practices down the stretch of camp", he said. Just some new things for me. With a 100% completion rating during his short playing time, Taylor threw for 99 yards and hit tight end David Njoku for a touchdown to put the Browns up 7-3. Last season coach Hue Jackson led the Browns to a ideal 4-0 record in the preseason. "I'm honestly not surprised by anything Baker does".
Callaway, the Browns' fourth-round pick, played despite being cited for marijuana possession and driving with a suspended license. At the time he exited, Mayfield was also tied for the team lead in rushing yards (13, on three attempts).
Mayfield finished a stellar evening 11-of-20 for 212 yards and two touchdowns.
