Commander Of Bin Laden Raid: Revoke My Security Clearance Too, Trump

Former CIA director John Brennan- shown here in September 2016- says he knows he has a

Bruce Ohr Could Lose Job at Dept. of Justice If Security Clearance is Revoked

"I know that I've gotten tremendous response from having done that because security clearances are very important to me - very, very important", Trump said in a brief session with reporters on the White House lawn. "For him to be at the Justice Department, and to be doing what he did, that is a disgrace". Ohr's wife worked for Fusion GPS.

While speaking to assembled reporters before getting on Air Force One on Friday, President Donald Trump gave himself generous praise for revoking former CIA Director John Brennan's security clearance.

Russian Federation denies having meddled in the 2016 election, but three US intelligence agencies reported in January 2017 that Moscow had intervened and tried to help Trump beat Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton.

Of those on the list, only Ohr is still employed in government service, but maintaining a security clearance is useful for finding documents if any of them are called to testify before special counsel Robert Mueller investigation.

"By issuing such a statement, Mr. Trump was not only encouraging a foreign nation to collect intelligence against a United States citizen, but also openly authorizing his followers to work with our primary global adversary against his political opponent", Brennan wrote.

"There's no silence", Trump said. He reiterated that his action was directly tied to the Russian Federation investigation, or "rigged witch hunt", as Trump calls it.

Two of those who signed the statement - former director of national intelligence James Clapper and former CIA director Michael Hayden - are, according to Mr Trump, on a list of people who could lose their clearance.

The source said that White House communications officials have similarly discussed plans to release the other revocations as a distraction to unwelcome news coverage. Brennan described Trump's actions at a summit with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Helsinki last month as treasonous. The case, which has been winding its way through the federal court in Washington, D.C., was brought against the Taliban, the Islamic Republic of Iran, Afghanistan, its former President Hamid Karzai and other terrorist defendants.

In an op-ed published by the Washington Post, McRaven, a former Navy SEAL who led US Joint Special Operations Command from 2011 to 2014, not only called Brennan "a man of unparalleled integrity", but volunteered to have his own security clearance revoked in an act of solidarity.

Mueller and his team have been looking at Trump's public statements and tweets as they investigate whether the president could be guilty of obstruction.

"Beyond that, this action is quite clearly a signal to other former and current officials", the former officials said, adding that the signal "is inappropriate and deeply regrettable".

The bottom line is this: To simply remove security clearances for these criminals is not enough!

Former CIA directors and other top national security officials are typically allowed to keep their clearances, at least for some period.
