John Abraham's latest offering Satyameva Jayate clashed with Akshay Kumar's Gold at the box office this Independence Day. Being a national holiday on August 15, the two films had collectively earned over Rs 45 crore, with Gold earning around Rs 5 crore more than the other film.

Akshay Kumar's Gold too saw a similar trend in terms of box office. Producer Bhushan Kumar opened up exclusively to Filmibeat and showcased his happiness about the movie having a tremendous opening at the box office despite having an A certificate.

Gold, also starring Amit Sadh, Kunal Kapoor, Vineet Kumar Singh, Sunny Kaushal and Mouni Roy, has emerged to be Akshay Kumar's biggest opening till date. However, Gold managed to surpass the collection of Satyameva Jayate and now stands at Rs 55 crore. "Yes, the box office is on fire". It is facing a stiff competition from Satyameva Jayate, which released on August 15 as well.

To be sure, the Independence Day festive weekend has been Kumar's mainstay so far.
