The black Boston city councilor whose upset primary win over a 10-term congressman stunned Massachusetts' political establishment called her victory "surreal" Wednesday and said the wave of inclusiveness sweeping the nation is the best way to counter President Donald Trump.

"I'm sorry it didn't work out, but this is life", Capuano told supporters.
Capuano was the only Democratic incumbent in MA to lose a primary Tuesday night, with three others easily fending off challenges from the left.
The results are in for the MA primary races and two of the races have a historic outcome.
"I fundamentally believe that the people closest to the pain should be closest to the power", Pressley said on the trail.
Pressley has always been identified as a rising star in the Democratic Party.
Pressley also won the district's parts of Cambridge and Milton.

During discovery, Kaepernick's lawyers have requested hundreds of pages of documents from the league office and teams. Burbank's decision means there was sufficient evidence of collusion to keep Kaepernick's drive going.
"The only way we can beat the hate coming out from Washington is not with a vote-it's with a movement!" "These times require and this district deserves bold, activist leadership".
"It seems like change is on the way", Pressley, 44, told supporters celebrating her win and chanting her "change can't wait" campaign slogan.
Facing an uncontested general election for the district in November, Pressley, 44, is set to become the first woman of color to serve MA in Congress.
"It's about who I listen to and it's about who I govern with".
Ayanna Pressley just pulled off another stunner. As FiveThirtyEight reports, a MA candidate has followed in the footsteps of the young Ocasio-Cortez with a surprising upset against a mainstream Democrat challenger on Tuesday evening.
Additionally, Pressley entered her race with political experience, working 16 years as a congressional aide and serving nine years as a Boston city councilor. But those laws now lag Democrats' preference nationally for same-day and automatic voter registration - which Zakim has pushed. The city's mayor, Marty Walsh, campaigned with Capuano in the final days of the race.
The race drew national attention because it was seen by some as a possible indication of deeper generational and philosophical shifts within the Democratic Party, led by younger candidates who take more liberal positions on issues ranging from universal health care to immigration enforcement.
