Mercedes revealed on Tuesday how "aggressively" gunning for leading place in current battery autos marketplace presently dominated by Tesla, since it released the EQC, the primary utterly electric vehicle, at a conference in Stockholm.

Mercedes-Benz has corrected its initial range estimate for its electric EQC 400 crossover from 200 to 279 miles.

The dual motor electric motors generate 402 horsepower and 564 pound-feet of torque.

Powering the new electric SUV will be two motors placed on both the axles with an 80kWh lithium ion battery. EQ stands for Electric Intelligence, and will be applied to future electric models.

The firm is investing more than €10bn (£9bn) in the expansion of its electric range, and more than €1bn in battery production.

Mercedes can't flip that electrification switch fast enough.

Now, German brands Porsche and Audi are scheduled to produce luxury electric cars, as is Britain's Jaguar. Diesel engines, dogged by the baggage of emissions violations and facing bans in many major cities, are no longer an option.

"While Tesla now has a strong hold on the luxury electric market, I don't think this will be the case after the arrival of the German premium offerings", said Wajih Hossenally, an automotive powertrain analyst with IHS Markit. Mercedes-Benz described this as an "avant-garde electro-look" and called out how the dashboard and door trim are meant to remind you of a high-end amplifier. The EVs are part of 50 electrified vehicles planned by 2022.
