While Musk was in California where recreational use of marijuana is legal, his antics certainly did not sit well with investors.

Philippe Houchois, an analyst at Jefferies Group LLC with a hold rating on Tesla shares, said that Musk "seems to be on a slightly self-destructive bent". Over the past year, the company burned through roughly $2.4 billion of cash, with interest expense totaling $577 million, according to the research firm CreditSights.

Tesla's stock and bond prices dropped on Wednesday - linked to the row over Musk's comments about Mr Unsworth but also following an unveiling by Mercedes that presents a challenge to the electric vehicle maker.

"I got text messages from friends asking, 'What the hell are you doing smoking weed?'" Musk said on air.

Musk admitted - perhaps in a reference to his recent row after he branded British-born diver Vern Unsworth a "pedo" - that he had made mistakes on Twitter. "I mean, it's legal, right?" he asked. Not long after, it was also reported the company's human resources chief Gaby Toledano won't be returning from leave.

In a wide-ranging late-night interview with Joe Rogan that was live-streamed online, Musk took a puff from what the popular podcast host described as "marijuana inside of a tobacco".

Similarly, it is a moment of joy for our family and as the grandfather of the newborn, I am delighted and very proud of my family. In an interview with Republic TV, the actor shared his happiness and joy with the arrival of the new member in their family.

"Since I joined Tesla on August 6th, the level of public attention placed on the company, as well as the pace within the company, have exceeded my expectations", Morton said in a statement that Tesla filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission. During the 2½ hour podcast with Rogan, when he wasn't sipping whiskey, Musk lamented, "It's quite hard to run companies".

Shares of Tesla fell 6.3% to a five-month low on Friday after the company disclosed that its chief accounting officer resigned less than a month after he assumed the job. Musk works so many hours that employees have found him sleeping under tables at Tesla's facilities, they say. "As a result, this caused me to reconsider my future", Morton was quoted as saying in a company filing. "I don't actually notice any effect.I don't find that it is very good for productivity".

"You probably can't [take a drag] because of stockholders, right?"

In the month since Musk's now infamous "going private " tweet, Tesla has lost almost one-third of its value, prompting even long-time bullish analysts to urge the board to consider major changes to its executive lineup and relieve the CEO of some of his "banal" day-to-day duties of running a public company.

Musk already alarmed some Tesla investors by admitting in an emotional interview last month with The New York Times that he takes the prescription drug Ambien because he has difficulty sleeping.
