Pei says 59 percent of OnePlus users already have Bluetooth headphones, but even as someone who own numerous Bluetooth headsets, I still prefer having the option to plug in.
Pei added that there will be "new technology" in the OnePlus 6T, which is facilitated by the removal of the headphone jack.
Just hours after we learned that Apple has killed off the headphone jack by discontinuing its older 3.5mm-jack-toting iPhones, OnePlus has gone on record to state that there will be no headphone jack on its next handset, which is set to be the OnePlus 6T.
Team Android just lost one of the few remaining defenders of the headphone jack.
Speaking with TechRadar, the company's co-founder Carl Pei said that the "next OnePlus handset" (which we know will be called the 6T thanks to the usual deluge of online rumours) will not have the jack.
E-cigarette use is an 'epidemic', FDA chief says
The FDA discovered that top-selling brands like JUUL, Vuse, MarkTen XL, blu e-cigs, and Logic were popular among minors. It has warned that most such products contain nicotine , which is addictive and can affect brain development.
The Type-C Bullets also include a built-in microphone, so the headphones can be used for hands-free calling.
"You've got to make decisions that optimize the user experience, and understand that at times things that provide user value can also add friction", said Pei to TechRadar.
Specifically, those benefits include freeing up space for "improved battery life" and "more new technology".
It is interesting that previous year, OnePlus' CEO Pete Lau assured the community on the company's official forums that the 3.5mm headphone jack was an essential part of offering the "best flagship experience possible" for the OnePlus 5T. Also, the phone will have a "light sensitive fingerprint sensor under the display", an indication of the Screen Unlock feature expected on OnePlus 6T. So maybe things wont be as very bad as they seemed at first? For OnePlus to remove that convenience is certainly a bummer for this crowd. There, the solution is always going to need to be a headphone jack. OnePlus and Samsung are two of the notable companies that still make phones with a headphone jack, though OnePlus could be getting rid of it with the OnePlus 6T soon.
