Areas from Edisto Beach, South Carolina, through to Ocrakoke Inlet, North Carolina, and the Pamlico Sound were under a tropical storm warning.

Hurricane Florence, now a Category 2 storm, is slowly approaching the USA coast, and the storm's massive fury is on full display in video footage taken from the International Space Station. "It is important to note that the area affected by a tropical cyclone can extend well beyond the confines of the cone enclosing the most likely track area of the center".

"Florence is forecast to be an extremely risky major hurricane as it approaches the USA coast", the NHC said.

Florence is projected to weaken to a Tropical Storm by early Saturday before weakening to a Tropical Depression by Sunday near northern GA.
