Diego Forlan, now playing in Hong Kong, has knocked Atletico Madrid forward Antoine Griezmann off his pedestal.

The French forward felt hard done by, given that he is coming off the back of a World Cup-winning summer, and was part of the team that won the Europa League.

"Cristiano and Messi are above everyone", Forlan told Cadena Ser. "Griezmann is still not at their level".

'I'm at the top but I can get better.

"I seek to be as complete as possible".

Asked if he considered himself in the same class as Ronaldo and Messi, the Atletico Madrid player said: "Yes I think so and I know other players are going to come for sure".

Griezmann was widely expected to leave Atletico Madrid for Barcelona this summer, but revealed he had chose to stay in a short self-made documentary called "The Decision".

"If they were bad, I'd be gone". But I have confidence in Simeone, in the club and in my teammates.

"We always have a lot of love for top players but when they are not there, you have to keep going".

Griezmann missed out on making the final three for FIFA's The Best awards, with Ramos' old team-mate Ronaldo, and current team-mate Luka Modric making the list.

"There's nothing we can do", he said.

In February 2919, Ronaldo will turn 34 while Messi during the summer World Cup in Russian Federation, marked his 31st birthday anniversary.

Griezmann saying he is on the same table than Cristiano and Messi? I have it in the back of my head.

Griezmann has scored just once for Atleti this season as they have taken only five points from 12 in their worst start under Simeone, but after suffering a tough period past year he said he believed things could turn.

"I respect the opinion of everybody", Ramos said. "At that table, there are nice pictures I have, and I enjoy it there, but I know that I can get better".
