According to National Basketball Association insider Shams Charania, Butler alerted the front office on Wednesday of his desire to be traded and provided "a list of one to three teams with whom he's open to signing [an] extension".

The All-NBA's wing's request comes six days before the start of Timberwolves' training camp, and five days before the team's media day, placing the team in a tight spot this late in the offseason.

Instead, Butler would prefer it if the Timberwolves would make him a Clipper. Players signed this summer can't be traded until at least December 15 (and, in specific instances, January 15), which greatly reduces Minnesota's flexibility to make the best deal it can for one of the league's elite wing players. Butler, not surprisingly, informed Thibodeau he will walk as a free agent next summer if he isn't traded.

However, The Athletic's Jon Krawczynski believes the situation is not quite irreparable just yet.

Butler requested a meeting with the head coach to which he requested to be traded.

Per ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski, Butler's preferred teams are the Brooklyn Nets, Los Angeles Clippers, and New York Knicks. Butler made three All-Star trips with the Bulls and another with the Wolves last season.

A breakdown in relationship with Karl-Anthony Towns is thought to be part of the cause to Butler's frustrations.

The Timberwolves were scheduled to meet with Butler this week to "have honest conversations" about his future with the team.
