Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has again questioned his players' desire - amid reports he has told Paul Pogba he will not captain the club again.

Following his side's 1-1 draw with Wolverhampton Wanderers, Pogba appeared to criticise Mourinho's tactics during the game, insisting the team should "attack, attack, attack" when playing at Old Trafford.

The £89 million midfielder has been dropped from the squad for tonight's Carabao Cup match against Derby County at Old Trafford.

He told beIN Sports: "It's the kind of thing that wouldn't happen if Alex Ferguson was there. what's he (Mourinho) going to do with Paul Pogba?".

Pogba has scored two Premier League goals this season, both from the penalty spot, although he was denied from 12 yards by Joe Hart against Burnley.

Mourinho is understood to have made the brutal declaration in front of the rest of Pogba's stunned team-mates before their defeat to Derby.

Maurizio Sarri gives his take on Chelsea's captaincy confusion
Chelsea legend Didier Drogba is backing centre-forwards Alvaro Morata and Olivier Giroud to come good. His incisive passes opened up spaces for Hazard (and Costa) and goals poured in from all angles.

The poor run of form has come following a hard transfer window in which Mourinho repeatedly voiced his desire for more backing.

'When we are at home we should attack, attack, attack, ' he said.

More importantly, it signals a new low in Mourinho's relationship with Pogba, United's £89million record signing who has been pushing for a move to Barcelona.

However, he was also at fault when losing possession for Wolves' equaliser that left United already eight points adrift of Premier League leaders Liverpool after six games. "Then comes the red card, then you are in more trouble and they scoured the goal", Mourinho continued. I think teams are scared when they see Man United attacking and attacking.

"It would be a great headline if he scores a hat-trick, so don't ask me", Lampard told reporters. It seems that Pogba and Mourinho will not be able to coexist at United much longer, and the club will soon have to pick a side.

But while reiterating United's ability to compete for the best players in the transfer market - the club have forecast revenues of between £615m and £630m for 2018/19 - Woodward underlined the importance of a clear pathway to the first team for academy talents.
