Trump ripped into Ford at a rally Tuesday night in MS, claiming that the only thing in her testimony to the Senate Judiciary Committee she could remember that she only had "one beer" at the high school party in the 1980s at which she said she was sexually assaulted by Kavanaugh.

"A vote against Kavanaugh is a "yes" vote for more of these despicable tactics being used time and time again in the future", said Senate Majority Whip John Cornyn, R-Texas, on the Senate floor Tuesday. But she doesn't know who invited her to the party or where it took place, how she got there or how she got home afterward.

"What neighbourhood was it in?" I don't know. I don't know! I don't know. Upstairs, downstairs, where was it?

"I had one beer".

"I find that numerous voters we talk to aren't clear about this whole process, " Morial said.

The ridicule of Ford, delivered at the Landers Arena here in deeply conservative DeSoto County, is in stark contrast to the respectful way in which Trump and his aides had previously treated Ford's testimony, even as they have stood by Kavanaugh and his assertion that he never assaulted her or anyone else.

The 100-person Senate is controlled by the Republicans (51-49) but as the midterms are approaching, it may not stay that way for long.

The Republican senator who suddenly sits at the center of the explosive debate over President Donald Trump's Supreme Court pick was set to address New Hampshire voters on Monday ahead of a possible run for president.
