Kelly, Bolton reportedly get into White House screaming match

Sparring just outside the Oval Office, Kelly reportedly tried to defend the performance of his protege, Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen, who has allowed a record number of immigrants into the country.

According to reports, chief of staff John Kelly and national security advisor John Bolton got into it on Thursday.

The White House has not commented on the incident, and President Trump said he'd "not heard about it".

She then slammed Democrats, accusing them of failing to address the issue and pushing an open borders agenda.

A senior White House official said later that Nielsen and Bolton had a nice conversation in Bolton's office after the exchange and agreed the goal was to protect borders. He vowed on Thursday to deploy the military and shut down the Mexican border unless the migrants are turned back. The argument was over immigration policy, with Bolton wanting a more hard-line approach on illegal border crossings.

The White House was debating immigration and whether Republicans should use it as a campaign message for November's midterm elections when the discussion erupted into a heated debate. CNN reported on fears in the White House that someone might resign over the argument.

"While we are passionate about solving the issue of illegal immigration, we are not angry at one another", said White House spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders.
