NRCC Demands Apology for 'SNL' Joke on Disabled Veteran

SNL's Pete Davidson made fun of the appearance of Dan Crenshaw whose eye was destroyed by an IED while serving in Afghanistan

Crenshaw, a war veteran, wears protective covering over an eye he lost to a war-related injury.

"You may be surprised to hear he's a Congressional candidate from Texas and not a hitman in a porno movie", Davidson said during the skit.

NRCC spokesperson, Jack Pandol, released a statement Sunday, criticizing Davidson's actions, adding that being dumped is "no excuse for lashing out" at a war hero. "That being said, I hope [Saturday Night Live] recognizes that vets don't deserve to see their wounds used as punchlines for bad jokes", Crenshaw tweeted.

Former White House press secretary Sean Spicer also appeared on "Fox & Friends" Monday morning, where he voiced his opinion that "SNL" Executive Producer Lorne Michaels should be fired over the incident - a starkly different response than that of Crenshaw himself. "I think Pete's a very humble dude and he's got a big heart". We don't need to be outwardly outraged, I don't need you to demand an apology from them.

He went on to say that Davidson and NBC are likely "feeling the heat from around the country right now" and that he doesn't need to demand an apology from them. "But, you know, stand-ups are very like - they're the ones that help us laugh through the most terrible things in the first place, so they're always fishing in weird places, and that was an unfortunate outcome". The guy did three combat tours as a Navy SEAL.

Crenshaw was injured during his third deployment in 2012 when he was hit by an IED blast during a mission in Afghanistan, according to his website. After earning a Master's Degree in Public Policy from Harvard University, Crenshaw moved back to his home state of Texas to run for Congress.

Crenshaw, a Republican, is running against Democrat Todd Litton to replace retiring U.S. Rep. Ted Poe, R-Houston.

Crenshaw later told TMZ that he didn't necessarily want an apology.

The comedian then chose to turn the joke on himself, saying he knows he "shouldn't be making fun of how anyone looks".

Davidson later admitted he can't make fun of other people because he looks like he "makes vape juice in a bathtub".
