Happy Election Day! Voters of all stripes are anxiously awaiting election results. Weather could affect turnout, with residents of several states in the Deep South and Mid-Atlantic contending with thunderstorms, high winds and power outages.

"I think the Senate will be too much of an uphill climb".

President Trump shakes hands with House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy during a rally this summer. He added: "The Democrat agenda is a socialist nightmare".

It may not be easy for Democrats to take the House majority, since they will have to win a string of districts in Republican territory and get strong turnout, but they head into Tuesday in position to do so - even if narrowly.

Should Democrats fail tomorrow, the argument about what kind of progressive party they should be will start again.

Should Democrats win control of the house of representatives, as strategists in both parties suggest is likely, they could derail Mr Trump's legislative agenda for the next two years.

They need to pick up two dozen seats to claim the House majority.

Democrats during the 2016 demanded Trump release his tax returns.

"The first thing [Republicans] will say the morning after the election is we are dedicated to the re-election of Donald Trump". He is bombarding the voters with tweets and speeches that make out the caravan as a bunch of criminals who threaten the safety of the United States, with particular emphasis on the welfare of women. Young voters promised to vote in record numbers as they waged mass protests in the wake of the February mass shooting at a Parkland, Florida, high school that left 17 students and staff dead.

"Trump has hijacked the election".

In Michigan, Rashida Tlaib could become the first Muslim woman and first Palestinian-American in Congress. "You see how they've behaved".

Even veteran observers of US campaigns find it all a little bewildering.

With a walking caravan of immigrants weeks away from reaching the border, Mr Trump dispatched more than 5,000 troops to the region.

The Republican president is the omnipresent figure as Americans render their verdict Tuesday on the past 21 months of Trumpism. In Virginia, former President Barack Obama told Democratic campaign volunteers that "the character of this country is on the ballot".

"When you vote, Illinois, you can reject that kind of politics".

"This first midterm, at this check-in moment, to have these different forces converge in different ways, to have the different loud landscape for the House and the Senate". Republicans have become the party of President Trump-a party that has decided they must lie about the core of their gospel. A federal court threw out this attempt in Georgia, allegedly a planned effort by Republican candidate for the post of governor, its current secretary of state Brian Kemp.

But the battle for the 35 Senate seats is expected to favour the Republicans because numerous contests are in states Mr Trump won in 2016.

Editor's note: Men like Trump is a series of dispatches that tell of how a reckless president is steering the White House, and the manner in which his actions are fundamentally altering the office he holds. "If they can hold down their losses their to maybe three or four, that would be a good night", said Alan I. Abramowitz, a political scientists at Emory University.

Democrats also threaten to recapture governors' offices in several battleground states such as Michigan, Wisconsin and OH, a potential help for the party in those states in the 2020 presidential race. She also backs Trump and said Republicans are moving in the right direction on health care. Her aching back made her want to stay put, but the 74-year-old in IN had somewhere she needed to be - the polls. "That's why our economy is growing like it is".

Despite their big 2016 campaign pledge, Trump and Republicans have so far failed to outright repeal Obamacare, although they have unravelled it little by little. Another 35 USA senate seats are in play, as well as nearly 40 gubernatorial votes and the balance of power in virtually every state chamber.

However, the polls slightly favour Democrats in both those toss-up senate races, according to the statistical analysis site FiveThirtyEight.

"I feel less comfortable making a prediction today than I have in two decades", Republican pollster Frank Luntz said.
