Final Fantasy XV Director Leaving Square Enix

Final Fantasy 7 Remake to Feature Content From Spin-Offs

Final Fantasy XV Multiplayer: Comrades Launches This December

It's not all over quite yet, with Episode Ardyn due to launch in spring 2019 and more bits and bobs coming before then.

This week hasn't been a good one for Square Enix.

2019 was supposed to hold the Dawn of the Future expansion series, featuring Episode Ardyn, Episode Aranea, Episode Lunafreya, and Episode Noctis. Oh, and the game's director has resigned from Square Enix as well.

The cancellation of XV's DLC is presumably linked to the huge $33 million loss Square Enix took during the second half of this year.

Square Enix also confirmed during the livestream that the team at Luminous Productions - which has been responsible for supporting Final Fantasy 15 throughout the years - is now working on a new project, and it seems likely that it'll focus its full efforts on whatever that game is once Ardyn's DLC releases in March 2019.

Now, this doesn't mean that Square is giving up on Final Fantasy XV, it just means that the content leadership under Tabata will be no more. Once it does go live, the game mode in the main Final Fantasy XV game will no longer be playable, players will instead have to download Comrades separately.

Luminous was established back in March with the aim of developing blockbuster titles alongside "innovative games and entertainment", but has since refocused its efforts exclusively on triple-A development. Final Fantasy XV was considered a success, but this news does put an abrupt end to the for future episode DLCs planned for the game. Final Fantasy XV was in production for almost a decade. Final Fantasy XV Multiplayer Comrades releases the same day, with new bosses, weapons, and costumes available.
