The incident began last month, when the Blackpool-area police posted security images online that showed an apparent thief walking out of a store with armloads of unpaid-for beer.
He was caught on CCTV carrying the cans up an aisle, with Schwimmer's video response also showing him carrying beer in an American supermarket.
Blackpool police noted in a statement: "Following the appeal we posted looking for a man who resembles a well-known actor from the popular sitcom Friends; we now have an update".
He added the hashtag #itwasntme to the post.
