What does Google's Night Sight do? With low-light photography, some of the main challenges involve understanding the light surrounding the images (measured in lux) and second is to understand the number of frames to be captured to compensate for the light or lack thereof.
Remember when Google launched the Pixel 3 and 3 XL handsets on October 9th and showed off the impressive Night Sight mode that made a mockery of the difficulty of taking photos in low-light conditions?
Both pictures are taken with the Pixel 3XL.
Fox News Sides With CNN on White House Lawsuit
In opposition to CNN's lawsuit , the memo argues: "No journalist has a First Amendment right to enter the White House". Judge Andrew Napolitano, the top legal analyst on Trump's favorite network, Fox News , said the same thing on Tuesday.
The new Night Sight camera mode will be rolling out over the next few days with an update to the Google Camera app.
Google says its goal in developing Night Sight was to allow for photos between 3 lux and 0.3 lux with a single shutter press and without any artificial lighting. If the subject moves during the capture, Night Sight can adapt to prevent a modest amount of motion from ruining the shot. "To address this limitation we've added two manual focus buttons to Night Sight on Pixel 3 - the "Near" button focuses at about 4 feet, and the "Far" button focuses at about 12 feet". Also, photos taken using Night Sight will take longer to capture, due to the multiple frames, but the results are well worth the wait. When it comes down to it, Night Sight is positively groundbreaking, not just for mobile photography, but photography in general. Taking selfies and group selfies (thanks to the ultra-wide lens) in a really dark area can not get better. Though Google may end up having to play a game of cat & mouse, as ROM hackers have been able to modify imaging applications to get it working on third-party phones as well.
The front camera displayed noise even with Night Sight feature, but the result was better compared to the photo taken in regular mode. In a bit of a twist, you can use it in the daytime as well for "denoising and resolution improvements" inherited from another Google Camera feature: Super Res Zoom.
