NASA administrator Jim Bridenstine announced nine U.S. companies would compete in delivering experiments to the lunar surface.
Characterizing the USA race to the moon "a fledgling industry", he said NASA will rely heavily on the private companies' research and will be affordable.
'We want multiple providers that are competing on cost and innovation, Bridenstine said. In a departure from past practice, the companies own their rockets and spacecraft and can use them for other, non-government missions if a market develops.
That's the word from NASA Administrator Jim Bridenstine, whose agency is working with SpaceX and Boeing to fly astronauts to the International Space Station. Working with US companies is the next step to achieving long-term scientific study and human exploration of the Moon and Mars.
Nasa has not said anything about the condition of the other instruments on board, which include a French-made seismometer to study Marsquakes and a German self-hammering mole to measure heat's escape from the planet.
Essentially, NASA's new Moon strategy will involve using private companies to build the stuff they send their experiments to the Moon on.
The goal is to get science and technology experiments to the surface of the moon as soon as possible, and the first flight could be next year. "That foil collected material from the sun and provided the best measurements of the sun we had for the next 25 years".
The Space Directive prompted NASA to establish The Exploration Campaign, a national and agency effort focused on three core domains: low Earth orbit; lunar orbit and surface; and Mars and other deep space objectives.
Neither Russia Nor Ukraine Will Easily Give Up the Sea of Azov
Just a couple of months ago, Ukrainian naval vessels followed a similar route through the strait without incident. It's apparently created to prevent Moscow from forming "private armies" on Ukrainian soil.
On Dec. 11, 2017, President Trump signed the new policy directive, officially making a return to the moon the near-term goal of America's human space program.
'This time, we're no kidding going to go, ' he told reporters. It will design and build lunar landers to facilitate scientific exploration of the Moon and help create a base there.
Throughout the past moon missions, astronauts spent only 16 days at six sites on the surface.

The agency hopes that this new program will help bring the US back to the surface of the moon.
But it's also influenced by several tragedies in NASA's history, including the 1967 Apollo 1 fire and two space-shuttle disasters (Challenger in 1986 and Columbia in 2003) that, all together, killed 17 people.
And of course, the moon's surface will be a kind of test site for human missions to Mars, much like the space station has established information about long-term human spaceflight. "We've had a number of conversations", he said adding, "I will tell you, he is as committed to safety as anybody, and he understands that that was not appropriate behavior, and you won't be seeing that again".
