The film dominated the ticket window right from day one. The sci-fi thriller, however, has bettered the all-India box-office collection of Aamir Khan's Thugs of Hindostan (₹63.5 crore gross) to report the highest opening for any movie in 2018. Rajinikanth starrer "2.0", that is a sequel to his flick "Robot" has collected a whopping Rs 2.64 crore in Chennai pushing Vijay's "Sarkar" (that had managed to collect 2.37 crore on its first day) to the second place. The movie marked the Tamil debut of Akshay and is his first collaboration with megastar Rajinikanth. He is seen playing the role of an ornithologist, who believes that mobile phones radiations create harmful environment for birds. Reportedly, "2.0" happens to be the most expensive Indian film being made to date. Thus, it has already surpassed the record of Prabhas starrer Baahubali which got 6500 screens.
