"Football fans in the Emerald City have long had a reputation of being loud - really loud - and it's that energy and enthusiasm that convinced us that an XFL team will thrive in the Pacific Northwest at CenturyLink Field", XFL commissioner Oliver Luck said Wednesday morning.

The St. Louis team will play in The Dome at America's Center, where the St. Louis Rams played in downtown St. Louis.

The football league founded by wrestling entrepreneur Vince McMahon will be absent in several of the largest television markets: Chicago, Philadelphia, San Francisco, Boston and Atlanta.

Beyond the presser, the XFL posted a video with a list of the cities to its official Twitter account. "We pledge to bring St. Louis a team deserving of a passionate and football-starved fan base".

In a major announcement this afternoon, the XFL revealed all eight teams that will compete in their upcoming 2020 relaunch, as well as plenty of new details for the alternative football league.

"The XFL will offer fast-paced games with fewer play stoppages and simpler rules", the league said in a news release.

"We believe launching in February 2020 gives us the time to get the game, the fan experience and the partnerships right, and we believe we are well on our way", Luck said. Luck said they want more in-game rhythm and flow, and he also spoke about safety precautions. Luck also emphasized that they want to keep ticket prices low for families. The league lasted just one season.
