"Mr. Ronaldo has always maintained, as he does today, that what occurred in Las Vegas in 2009 was consensual in nature", Christiansen said, "so it is not surprising that DNA would be present, nor that the police would make this very standard request as part of their investigation".
The Wall Street Journal, citing an unnamed law enforcement official, initially reported that a warrant was sent to Italy that would compel Ronaldo to submit a DNA sample to see if it matches DNA found on the accuser's dress.
But the investigation ended a short time later because Las Vegas police say she only identified her attacker as a European soccer player - not by name - and did not say where the incident took place. Once there, say the court papers, he urged her into his hot tub, but she refused because she did not want to spoil her dress.
Investigators did not follow up with Mayorga and the case was closed shortly thereafter, he said.
Police reopened the case a year ago when she came forward.
Las Vegas police did not comment on Thursday.
Schweizer-Reneke SGB vows to work with govt amid racism probe
School leaders have now launched a racism probe after the picture , taken by a class teacher, emerged. But he said the blame must lie with the Government, which had 'neglected public and rural schools'.
In a statement, Ronaldo's legal team said Ronaldo had "no specific recollection" of meeting Lennard at any point.
As the night progressed, the footballer reportedly sexually assaulted Mayorga in his bedroom after cornering her inside one of the suite's bathrooms.
News of the warrant comes two days after a second woman, Jasmine Lennard, an English model and reality television star who previously wrote a tell-all about her relationship with Ronaldo, accused him of violent behaviour in a series of posts on Twitter. "I have information that I believe will be beneficial to your case and I would like to help you".
"My clear conscious will thereby allow me to await with tranquillity the results of any and all investigations".
However, Mayorga's lawyers are pursuing monetary damages and seeking to void the non-disclosure agreement on the grounds that she was legally incompetent to agree to a settlement.
