The 48-year-old man had been ordered to surrender an AR-15 rifle in November after being convicted in a battery case stemming from an altercation where he punched a co-worker at the Cache Creek Casino Resort in the face. A sea of candles lit the night at Central Park to honor the memory of Davis Police Officer Natalie Corona killed in the line of duty.

Police in the city of Davis on Saturday released the letter they say was written by Kevin Limbaugh.

Corona started volunteering as a community service officer with the Davis Police Department after she graduated from high school and for a time work at the department even after funding for her position ran out.

The note found in his home reads in part, "the Davis police are hitting me with ultrasonic waves meant to keep dogs from barking".

Corona realized her dream in August upon graduating from the police academy.

Police said a gunman on a bicycle ambushed the officer, shooting her as she investigated a vehicle accident, then reloaded and narrowly avoided wounding others before walking away.

No one else was injured in the attack besides Corona, who died at the UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento. "She's just an absolute star in the department and somebody that pretty much every department member pretty much looked to as a close friend and sister".

The typed letter continues: "I notified the press, internal affairs, and even the Federal Bureau of Investigation about it".

More than 1,000 mourners attended a Saturday evening vigil for Corona. They were holding a meeting in a nearby church when the shots rang out Thursday night.

Investigators also found two semiautomatic handguns inside the house, a 9 mm and a.45-caliber, not registered to Limbaugh, Doroshov said. There, the Sacramento Bee reports, several members of the Davis police force shared anecdotes illustrating Corona's commitment to helping others.
